lights, camera, audition: the technique of virtual auditioning
an arvold.education workshop on self-taping led by Erica Arvold, CSA
The ability to self tape and produce a good virtual audition is an invaluable skill in the modern actor’s arsenal. The virtual audition is not only about the performance, it is also about submitting a video that looks professionally produced. The quality of a self tape helps your audition stand out from the rest. You do NOT have to have a film crew to achieve that higher production value – and if you’ve wondered how to improve your own self tapes, this participatory workshop is for you!
Please join casting director Erica Arvold, CSA, and arvold session director Mike Duni for a hands-on, practical workshop on self-taping. They will work with participants one-on-one, giving tips, advice and feedback to actors who want to improve their basic cinematography & self-taping skills.
Friday, April 24
1 – 5 PM
Tickets:
$145 through 4/10/15
$160 after 4/10/15
We recommend that participants have at least a small amount of experience in self-taping, operating a camera (whether a DSLR or your iPhone), and basic editing (whether you use iMovie or Premiere). The focus of the workshop will be on taking rudimentary skills to the next level once the camera is on and rolling.
Topics that will be covered include:
– advice on preparation and appearance
– practical and technical tips on taping, including lighting, slating, framing, and sound
– basic setup needed
– how to work with your reader
– basic uploading / delivery

This workshop is open to participants 17 years of age and above. We encourage students to bring their camera and any equipment they use to tape at home – our goal is for students to leave comfortable and confident and ready to submit a fabulous self-tape. If you do not have a camera or a phone that you use for taping auditions, please feel free to attend; however, we recommend that you have basic self-taping knowledge to get the most from the session.
