arvold in atlanta, september 2016

Back by popular demand, Erica Arvold and Richard Warner are returning to Atlanta this September to lead our three most popular intensives, and (the amazing) Richard Warner will also be offering private coaching.  We’re excited to work with Southeast film artists again this year! All programs will be held at the Robert Mello Studio in Doraville.  Here are all the details and links to enroll (please click on the specific times under each listing to get to its registration page):

taking the next step: transitioning from co-star to guest star Tuesday, Sept 13, 10am-2pm OR 4pm-8pm

Taking the next step in your acting career requires committing to unique, memorable choices – and doing it consistently.  From preparation to execution (including both the audition as well as working on set), this workshop will provide each actor with personal, in-depth instruction to delve deeper and make that leap to the next level of performance.  Actors will explore the differences between the two from their point of view and from the point of view of the casting director.  This intensive is inspired by the growth of television and film in the MidAtlantic and Southeast and focuses specifically on the difference between co-star and guest star – and how to bridge that gap.  Erica and Richard will lead the group in analyzing examples on screen and page, working scenes, and discussing what both creative and business growth entail.
**NOTE: all actors must have legitimate co-star credits to enroll in this particular class (recommended experience: 3+ co-star roles in film/television). Final admission to this class may require resume/reel review by instructor and/or arvold.education.

the art of reviewing your self-tape Wednesday, Sept 14 12pm-4pm AND Friday, Sept 16 12pm-4pm (both sessions mandatory)

One of the biggest advantages of self-taped auditions is the chance to choose which audition take to submit, but stepping back to evaluate your own performance can be tricky! In this two-part class, Erica Arvold, CSA and Rob Mello will teach the art of reviewing your own self-tape whether you produced it yourself or had a self-taping studio produce it.  Through interactive viewing exercises, instructor feedback and group discussion, students will learn how to put on the hat of casting director, director and producer.  This intensive, two-part discussion-based class will require homework, active participation, and an openness to constructive criticism.  Please note: this is not an on-your-feet audition technique class; it focuses on the elements of assessing your audition takes.

total preparation: art meets craft in the audition room Thursday, Sept 15, 10am-2pm OR 4pm-8pm

Total Preparation is an intensive class that offers each actor personal, in-depth co-instruction and practical, professional advice from Richard Warner, acting coach, and Erica Arvold, CSA, on the entire audition process. The class specifically addresses film auditions.  Features of the workshop include insight into the casting process, script analysis, character creation, tips on improving each individual’s audition technique, on-camera practice with real film sides in a simulated professional audition session.

the actor’s persona: honing your craft through self-awareness Saturday, Sept 16, 10am-2pm OR 4pm-8pm

What’s your type, and how can knowing your type help your career?  Knowing your professional persona is a valuable tool that can direct, inform, and guide your career growth.  Erica Arvold, CSA and acting coach Richard Warner will lead the group in hands-on creative exercises to discover each participant’s own professional persona.  They will discuss why self-awareness is vital and how that self-awareness can be used by an actor in his/her career.  Participants will explore how an actor can discover, shape and present oneself in the most optimal way to casting directors, agents and directors.

meet & greet with arvold.education & Rob Mello
Friday, Sept 16, 6:30-8:30pm

We will also have a special event to meet Atlanta film artists…please join us for a casual meet & greet! Our team would love to better know the film artists (actors, agents, crew, etc…) who are the backbone of Atlanta film!  While this event is free to attendees, an RSVP is required as there is limited capacity.  We will be introducing our team, Richard Warner, Amy Quick & Erica Arvold, as well as Robert Mello of The Robert Mello Studio, who is not only our generous host this visit, but a master teacher himself. This event is an opportunity to meet like-minded film artists who are passionate about their craft and believe in the power of education.  We hope to see you there!
