CAST: MARY JO SANDERS – Scottie Thompson
[KALEE] 60 years old, African-American, she has a kind face and a gentle manner. The owner of a daycare center called “Kaylee Cares,” she watches over Mary Jo’s baby. Knowing that Mary Jo is having a hard time making ends meet, she is flexible when it comes to payments. She tells Mary Jo that it’s the Christian thing to do.
[FATHER] 45 years old, seen in flashback, he is Mary Jo’s father. He teaches his young daughter how to hunt and trap in the backwoods of South Carolina. He is killed in a hit-and-run accident.
[NATIVE AMERICAN #1] 35 years old, Native American, he is a member of the Santee tribe. He stops Mary Jo when she comes on to sacred land. When he realizes who she is, he makes the decision to offer her protection, and later comes to her aid when she is tracked down.
[FRANK NILES] 45 years old, Niles works for Jason Mitchell. He shows up at Mary Jo’s house and tells Mary Jo “Jason wants to take care of you now.” He presents her with papers but quickly realizes that Mary Jo is not going to make things easy. Arrogant and unkind, he has a mean streak and says some very brutal things to Mary Jo.
[CHIEF] 50s, Any Ethnicity. This Police Chief has a conversation with Namos about the developing situation. Reasonable and even-tempered, the Chief offers Namos some advice.
[DEPUTY TAYLOR] 40 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. Confident, professional, perceptive, this deputy is Sheriff Namos’s assistant. Working very closely with Namos, he shares his ideas and insights about the case.
[PEDRO] 40 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. Pedro is Mary Jo’s boss at Dexter’s Restaurant. He is not happy when Mary Jo comes to work with her baby. He doesn’t care about her personal problems.
[FERGUSON] 55 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. Confident, decent, straightforward, he works with Namos at the Fusion Center. He informs Namos that DHS wants to be more aggressive and “assign a sniper.” He is annoyed by the officious Homeland Security officers – and feels their approach is wrong and unreasonable.
[MAX] 45 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. Affable, he is one of Mary Jo’s customers at Dexter’s Restaurant. He tells her that people underestimate her and that someday she’s going to make a mark.
[THUG] 30 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. This intimidating thug grabs Mary Jo by the neck and tries to rob her. He is in cahoots with Cree Miner.
[LOCAL OFFICER #1] 40 years old, Any Ethnicity. This local police officer informs Namos that he just got a call from a reporter who claims he has a confession from the shooter. He/She updates Namos as things develop.
[LOCAL OFFICER #2] 40 years old, Any Ethnicity. This local officer works closely with Namos.
[TECHNICIAN #1] 30s, Any Ethnicity. Professional, this technician in the communications trailer works closely with Namos.
[HOMELAND SECURITY #1 & #2] 40s to 50s, Any Ethnicity. Tough, confident, self-assured, these homeland security officers are very aggressive in their approach in dealing with Mary Jo. They show no mercy.
[DRONE OPERATOR] 30 years old, Any Ethnicity. This drone operator is at the controls of the Predator Drone as it flies over the South Carolina Hill country. He/She works with Homeland Security.
[MAYOR] 55 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. He is the Mayor of Medea, South Carolina. He stands behind the lectern at a Fourth of July parade and gives a glowing speech about Captain Jason Mitchell.
[ASHLEY MINER] 30 years old, Female, Caucasian. Beautiful, Ashley is Cree Miner’s daughter. She recently married Jason, her high school sweetheart. She is pregnant with his child.
[ADMIN] 20 years old, Any Ethnicity. This admin assistant works at the Cree Corporate headquarters.
[DISTINGUISHED MAN] 65 years old, Any Ethnicity. This distinguished-looking man is interviewed by a talk show host.
[PREACHER] 60s, Male, Caucasian. This preacher recites prayers at a funeral in South Carolina.
[YOUNG MAN] 20s, Male, Any Ethnicity. This young man works for Niles and Miner. He brings a car to Mary Jo.
[SHERIFF] 40 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. This sheriff talks to Mary Jo about the eviction notice. He gives her a couple more day.
[CLERK] 25 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. This clerk works at the Doubletree Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina.
[BELL BOY] 18 years old, Male, Any Ethnicity. This bell boy thanks Mary Jo for the tip.
[BETTY MINER] 55 years old, Female, Caucasian. Elegant, she is Cree Miner’s wife. She talks and laughs with guests.
[FORENSICS OFFICER] 40 years old, Any Ethnicity. This forensics officer confers with Namos at the scene of a shooting.
[PILOT #1 & #2] 30s, Any Ethnicity. These helicopter pilots fly over the South Carolina terrain looking for the suspect.
[STATE OFFICER #1] 40 years old, Any Ethnicity. This officer works with Namos. He/She chimes in with a question.
[DHS TECHNICIAN #1] 30s, Any Ethnicity. This technician works with Homeland Security.
[SNIPER] 30s, Male, Any Ethnicity. This sniper with Homeland Security aims at his target and shoots.
[NATIVE AMERICAN #2] 35 years old, Native American. They are a member of the Santee tribe.
[NATIVE AMERICAN #3] 35 years old, Native American. They are a member of the Santee tribe.
[JENNA] 18 years old, Jenna is Mary Jo’s babysitter. She is a nice, amiable teen who can’t help but worry about Mary Jo’s situation. She feels badly about taking Mary Jo’s money for babysitting – and eventually tells her that she can’t work for her anymore. Later, she returns to help out.
[JASON MITCHELL] 35 years old, politically conservative, a Medal of Honor recipient and decorated Afghanistan war veteran, Jason is the favorite son of the small town of Medea, South Carolina. Charismatic and charming, he appears to be the perfect family man, with a beautiful wife and a baby on the way. However, Jason had a past relationship with Mary Jo that he wants to keep quiet – he’s the father of her child and pays no child support. When he announces his candidacy for the Senate, he remains confident that he can keep his relationship with Mary Jo out of the news. Despite his smooth, easygoing manner, he is a ruthless, arrogant, extremely ambitious individual with no moral compass.
[JACOB GOLDSTEIN] 40 years old, handsome, he is a reporter for the New York Tribune. Working on a piece on Jason Mitchell and his Senate campaign, he approaches Mary Jo for her story. He knows he’s on to something big and he’s anxious to break her story. During the course of their relationship, he becomes very close with Mary Jo and realizes that their relationship could easily grow into something more serious. However, he chooses to keep things professional.
[CREE MINER] 60 years old, powerful, confident, arrogant, corrupt, Miner is Jason Mitchell’s father-in-law. An influential, powerful bank executive with South Carolina Union Bank, he firmly believes anybody can be bought and he’s convinced that Mary Jo has a price. He does everything in his power to intimidate Mary Jo and make her life miserable.
[HECTOR NAMOS] 60 years old, tall and commanding, Namos is the local sheriff in Medea, South Carolina. A perceptive, intelligent man, he investigates the shooting at the Miner home. He questions Jason after the tragedy, and learns of Jason’s relationship with Mary Jo. Practical, fair and compassionate, he feels for Mary Jo – realizes she’s up against some bad people – and strongly suspects that things are not going to go well for her.
