making the most of your DSLR: a workshop

A practical, hands on workshop for beginner to intermediate users of DSLR cameras

This three-part class will give an overview of the features of the DSLR camera and how to best utilize the DSLR in your own work.  Participation will be hands-on, combining a classroom session to explore the camera and its settings as well as discuss its advantages (and disadvantages) with an actual shoot using the DSLR.  Finally, our instructors will serve as technical advisors on your shoot.

Session ONE – Camera and Shoot 101
Wednesday, July 9, 2014, 1-4pm
Charlottesville, VA
  • Part One:  a detailed conversation with our DSLR DP/camera ops about the physical aspects, capabilities and utilization of the DSLR camera as well as its nuances, settings, bells & whistles
  • Part Two:  a mock shoot where the concepts discussed in the first half are integrated in a hands-on and guided environment appropriate to each individual’s level of experience
Session TWO – Interactive Shoot
Friday, July 25, 2014, 1-5pm
Charlottesville, VA

Participants will shadow one of our shoots, putting into practice the lessons learned in Session ONE.  Our DSLR DP/camera ops will take the time to explain how and why the DSLR is being utilized and provide time for hands-on experience as well.  Our client will be prepped and know that this is an educational shoot as well.

Session THREE – On Set with Participants

We come to you.  One of our DSLR DP/camera op instructors will accompany you/your crew to a shoot and share tips, be present for questions and give advice as needed.  The overall goal to ensure that your comfort level using the camera is to a level that you will continue to use it on jobs moving forward.

Cost is $195 per person with a 10% discount for multiple participants from the same company.

This is a small, intimate workshop with a limited number of seats available. Please email amy.quick@arvold.com to reserve a spot or with questions.
